Your step-by-step guide to using custom content management systems by Bateman Design Group.
- Log in to your CMS
- Select the Content Editor
- Select the page you want to edit
- Edit your text
1. Log in to your custom Content Management System (CMS)
Type in your username and password, and then press the Login button.
Tip: If you don’t have an ‘admin’ link in your website’s navigation, type /admin after your url, in your website’s browser. Check the Remember Me box if you’re on a secure computer and don’t want to retype your login info every time.
2. Select the Content Editor
Once you log into your CMS, you’ll see a dashboard that includes icons to each module you’ve added.
Select the Content Editor icon to add pages, change their order or edit the text on the pages you’ve already added.
Tip: To return to the dashboard at any time, click on the Dashboard link in the top left corner of your screen.
3. Select the page you want to edit
Once you’ve clicked on the Content Editor icon, you’ll see a list of pages grouped in categories such as Title (the main navigation menu for this site), Footer navigation or Non-Navigation (pages which are linked to from other pages, but not included in the main navigation menus).
When you move your mouse over one of the page titles, you’ll see the background change colour to indicate that you’ve selected that page. Double click that, or click on the edit icon that looks like a pencil on the right to edit that page.
4. Edit your text
When you first click on the page you’d like to edit, you may see the details of that page (title, belongs to, permalink, etc)—we’re not concerned with that information right now so click on the Body tab (after Details, before Meta Tags).
Now you’ll see the interface that is similar to Word or any other word processing software. Here you can select existing text to modify it, delete it or type in new copy.
Tip: When creating your content management system, our programmers have added a list of styles that will match your website. Click on the formatting or styles drop down menus to see them. If you have pasted text in from another program, you may need to remove that formatting for that text to accept the styles of your site. To do that, select the text and then click on the Remove Format icon (it looks like an eraser) and then apply the proper styles.
